I was gifted these two gorgeous Brahma's from a friend. The larger is a roo and I've fondly named him Mr Bingley. The hen is Miss Jane Bennet. As you know with all barnyard animals you must address them most properly!

One reason I was willing to take Mr Bingley and Miss Jane Bennet was because I'd found 15 Red Sex Link pullets (young production hens) to buy. At $15 a pop you can understand why free range GOOD eggs are $4+/dozen! I will most likely never re-coop my $225 investment...that's why this is a "HOBBY" Farm and not a profitable LLC any longer....cause frankly that's an oxymoron!

I'm not a huge fan of sex links...for one thing it's embarrassing to say their name in mixed company. The other is they just aren't nice! I'm determined to make these hens nice by spending some quality time in the coop with them. We'll see how that goes!!!

I decided to use the "milk room" which is where I actually did in real life, milk a cow! Golly that seems like an eternity ago! It's a nice big room and space is not going to be a problem. I could probably put in a few more hens and still be within the sanity limits!! I wasn't thinking mine, but theirs!!! Haha! After-all hens are about the simplest farm animal you can own! Just feed and water them, give them good fresh air and they pop out eggs on a daily basis....DO YOU HEAR THAT LADIES??? DAILY!!!
Picture
After a few days they were starting to go a little stir crazy in there (they get locked up so they know where home base is), so I finally opened the back door of the milk room and the first thing they saw was a GREEN patch of clover! They pounced upon it promptly!

I picked up several large heavy bags of "compost" from my local market and they thought they'd died and gone to heaven!!!

They adore tomatoes! And I know they will appreciate the greens....I sure do!

Welcome to our Newbies!!! Now get bizzy and lay us some eggs! I've got customers lined up for your soy free yummy yolks!

    Current Resume
I am now a retired FarmHer of the most amazing creatures God created; Sheep!!! I loved every day I was blessed with Shepherding them. I now am focusing on my art and gardening and allowing The Lord to use it for His Glory. I designed and we are building The Shepherd's Studio on our awesome property and have NO idea what God will do with it....but It's His to use however He chooses. I continue to be ever so excited about health issues, food and fun! In my ongoing endeavor to find health and healing. We are enjoying our retirement days together seeking The Father together for whatever He has for us here in East Texas. We remain broken and poured out vessels for His purposes. We love our quiet and peaceful life here in The Piney Woods of East Texas.
