The Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera)

The flowers and leaves of the lotus float effortlessly above the surface, allowing the deep roots to be reflected in its daily rebirth!!! It's a symbol of purity, divine beauty and resurrection! So my faith is deeply rooted in Christ and daily I bloom reflecting that my roots are deep and they keep me balanced and strong!
I wrote those words last Summer when we were vacationing in Bonita Springs FL. I just love how beautiful and simple the Lotus Flower is and so I set out to study it and was intrigued.

In my online Inspiration Wednesday class with Donna Downey Studios, I was applying watered down Fluid Acrylics on a gesso prepped page with a very uncontrollable mop and wash brush....it really went it's own way as if it had a mind of it's own . I loved how they were taking me along this journey, flowing and cracking as if they had a life of their own.

It flowed and started drying in layers with no effort on my part. Sometimes that's just the way it should be. I'm not sure we should struggle and fight and make it happen. If you're not feeling it, walk away!

It took me several years to get comfortable with this freeing form of art. This mixed media that made me feel so out of control. Hahaha!!!! That's sorta the point...letting go and just letting it happen. Then going with it.

I'd already pulled out the stencils I was inspired to use by Jeremiah 29:11; "For I know the Plans I have for YOU declares THE LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope." They included my favorite Lotus Flower from Stencil Girl and one with inspiring and encouraging words.

Looking at my pages, I thought they resembled what the Lotus Flower roots must look like under the water; reaching deep and allowing the flower to reflect it's deep groundedness. Though the flower is being rocked about, the roots hold it firmly in place.

I don't know about you but I need to shout an AMEN!!! I get all goose flesh when God speaks to me when I'm listening!!!

I've become less worried about perfection. If my stenciling isn't perfect...so be it!!! I'm sure not going to get my panties in a knot over something so simple! Not only is it terribly uncomfortable to do so, it makes me walk funny!!! :)

Without even giving thought to perfection and imperfection, I chose the number 7. The number of God. The number of PERFECTION!

Yes. Even in the midst of my imperfect Inspirational Wednesday...which was done on Thursday.... :p ....even knowing that nothing I do will ever be perfect, I can relax in knowing that God has it covered.

I feel really blessed in finding where my faith fits in my art. I do the art with an intention....which frankly has become an overly used and simplified word.....you could replace it with purpose...yes, that's a good word.

I now do my art with purpose. (SMILE!)

After I do my art with purpose then God speaks even more to me when I come and write about it. He uses everything in our lives. Nothing ever, ever, ever goes to waste! NOTHING!

If I can encourage you this week with anything....don't strive for perfection, taking control and forcing something to happen. I'm trying very hard myself to live by this lesson.

I read a quote by Lois Evans, the wife of the wonderful preacher from Dallas Tx, Tony Evans, and it said, "when God closes a door, don't push it open, because you might not like what you find."

TRUTH! Thank you Lord.
