Our church is doing a fundraiser for a Winter VBS. In Texas each Independent School District (ISD) pretty much sets it's own vacation dates. Our ISD has a very long Winter break well into the New Year. So a few ladies decided to offer a Winter VBS for the kids during their vacation. We have a very small church on a very small budget.

The fundraiser is a very unique Christmas photo shoot. Guess who sorta volunteered to shoot the pics? Our daughter is a professional photographer and she taught me enough that I'm dangerous!

I pulled my Nikon D80 out of mothballs and snapped 4 pics and it proceeded to die! Not only was I extremely sad because my Nikon was dead but in 3 days, I was suppose to shoot pics! I didn't stress too much over it....many people have some kind of digital camera today....but I was used to shooting a Nikon and I love my lenses. So, that night I went to church and mentioned it to a friend and she said....

"oh I have a camera you can use. My daughter is a professional photographer and she gave it to me to learn how to use, but I've never had it out of the bag. I have no idea what kind it is, but you are welcome to come by and get it."

To God be the glory! It was a Nikon and I did a little happy dance!

Jehovah Jireh! God our Provider!

I've been shooting pics every Sunday afternoon for 4 Sundays. Then I spend a few hours each week editing and sending them by email...in East Texas high speed internet....leaves a lot to be desired! The Lord keeps reminding me to serve with gladness and joy.

It's been fun....but I'm pooped after standing on my feet all day and doing squats. After I come home and edit them during the week, I'm filled with joy and you might hear me telling a few adults in the pics....keep your eyes on ME! heheehee...never fails...they have ADHD!

Not only was this the best $20 people spent for a fundraiser....they got awesome pics!

Here are a few. Don't ya just love the Texas touch!!! :)

Let the Races Begin!

I'm fortunate that I've been able to work from home for 27 years! Most of that is literally working AT home!!! I've been a stay at home mom since Ben was born and then homeschooled. Actually, I'm retired and this is what I get to do for fun!!!! Since my schedule is flexible I can get things done around the weather. I refuse to cut wet grass, or cut when I have to wear a parka! I want sunshine and roses if I'm out there working...otherwise I'll stay in and work.

Last Thursday the weather was cooperative and I had the time, so I cut the grass for the first time this season. That night, I laid down and said to The Hired Hand...."let the races begin!"

The perfect light

I couldn't resist this picture....it brings tears to my eyes to remember the innocence of Sweet Annie and Charlotte. How precious they were as they slept safely in the arms of their shepherd while soaking up the sun.

"I am the light of the world"~Jesus

Why did he choose light? He could of said, "I am the Sparkle of the World" or "I am the Joy of the World", but no, He said, "I am the LIGHT of the world."

The definition of LIGHT: "Primary properties of visible light are intensity, propagation direction, frequency or wavelength spectrum, and polarisation, while its speed in a vacuum, 299,792,458 meters per second, is one of the fundamental constants of nature."

Did you see that? Light is one of the fundamental CONSTANTS of nature!!!!  We associate light with the sun. Without the sun we would freeze to death and die. Without the SON we will die.

Many of us crave the light!  I do. I crave the sun like others crave sweets! As soon as I can gather enough pennies, I'm going to buy one of Dr Mercola's Sun Lamps to hang on the back of my bedroom door so I can get my fill of sunshine during the 6 months of Winter we are having in Maryland these days. My acupuncturist and I were trying to analyze why I tank every Oct...actually every October 16...my birthday. And perhaps it's my "fear" of Winter. The dark days. The days without light. The Sun Lamp is my solution. I use to be SAD (seasonal affective disorder) but I don't get emotionally SAD, my health just takes a sharp turn South! My joy is still plentiful, my smiles a free to all who pass by....my adrenals just take a severe beating.

Lessons in Light

I am working VERY hard to understand the light and shutter thingie on my Nikon D40 (could be a D30....frankly I have no idea unless I look...yep, D40, I get confused with that blue can of spray in hubs workshop!)

When The Farmer's Daughter, who is a professional photographer and a rather GOOD teacher, was trying to teach me I was in a hurry and just wanted her to do it for me (isn't that just like a student child! ) . Now that she is gone from our nest, I'm on my own!  I didn't mastered it in this session the other day. It was the flash that was getting me and she taught me to shoot on manual...not the sissy auto setting. She'd get so ticked when I switched to Auto for the simplicity and ease! She could always tell from the pics I posted....the eye of a true professional!!!

Lighting is very different on both settings. Manual gives you so much more depth....but as you can see....I didn't master it! It may of been easier to work on if I wasn't in the mirror....she would of told me to set up a tripod because no matter how hard we try we can't be still enough...as you can see. The slightest movement as the shutter is closing....fuzzy! (that's why I was holding it against my head...but I suppose my brainwaves were causing vibrations!)

More practice is needed of living in the light.

    Current Resume
I am now a retired FarmHer of the most amazing creatures God created; Sheep!!! I loved every day I was blessed with Shepherding them. I now am focusing on my art and gardening and allowing The Lord to use it for His Glory. I designed and we built The Shepherd's Studio (Sept 2019...complete) on our awesome 25 acre pine tree farm and have NO idea what God will do with it....but It's His to use however He chooses. I continue to be ever so excited about health issues, food and fun! Over the past 2 decades it's been my ongoing endeavor to find health and healing. I've experimented/biohacked myself with Whole Food Plant Based, Keto, Carnivore, Paleo....all of them! The way of eating that makes me feel my best and breathe freely with life long asthma, is the Whole Food Plant Based way of life...more specifically, Dr John McDougall's Starch Based Diet. We are enjoying our retirement days together seeking The Father together for whatever He has for us here in East Texas. We remain broken and poured out vessels for His purposes. We love our quiet and peaceful life here in The Piney Woods.
